welding a m14 barrel
I have a m14 barrel that has a saw cut up by the gas port hole.
The cut isn't to the rifling .
Can this cut be tig welded and then reharded and still be safe?

Doing that sort of welding on a barrel will likely cause stresses and warpage which will kill accuracy. I would rebarrel and not risk having any problems. 0 -
Agree with KAM. Welding a slot is going to warp the barrel right at the weld. Live with it or scrap it. 0 -
It could probability be done but it would be way cheaper and likely safer with better results to get a new tube. Out of curiosity how does one get a saw cut in a barrel? 0 -
How close is it to the bore? 0 -
A damaged high power rifle barrel has a high probability of catastrophic failure, which could result in serious injury or death.
Throw it out; a new Criterion replacement barrel is only around $250.

Or could be hand or arm, then bleed to death...NOT WORTH THE CHANCE!0
