Hello I need someone who knows about different types of 1911 Belt Holsters.
I don't have pictures YET, but Hope someone can tell me about 1911 holsters The front flap is held closed by a Brass Stud with a ball
that is held in place by a circle of leather stitched on the inside.of main body of holster.
THE flap has big U S stamped inside an OVAL
the back side has an extra piece of leather held on by 4 rivets as well as stitching with two slots that would allow a belt up to about 2 inches wide there are no metal Hooks like the gear canteen etc I am used to that fit on a web belt . I got this holster as part of a package with a 1918 built 1911 Black Army pistol it fits the 1911 Like a Glove because there is also a leather covered insert stitched to the left inside of holster ,
pictures now Karl note there is and never has been a WAY to instal Metal Hooks to fit to web belt Only a flat belt one picture has the top area and one shows the back that has the weird Flat inserts that goes to the inside insert that is aginst the left side of trigger
guard when pistol is installed for glove type fit. A 1917 revolver will not come close to going into this Holster
picture one stay tuned I have more coming

It's a Model 1916 holster, Karl. Many different manufacturers made them, over a long time period. So there is bound to be minor differences.
There were metal belt hanger hooks, as a integral part of the holster. I would imagine, that if a person just wanted to use the belt loops? No great problem in removing the hooks.
EDIT #1,
Never seen one with that type of stiffing/reinforcing panel on the back? Also all that I remember over the years, had manufacturers markings.
Maybe your on to something Karl? Might be a prototype? Or made for commercial sale, and never had metal hangers/belt loops?
EDIT #2,
You might see if you can locate a copy of this book Karl, or at least borrow one? Unfortunately it's been out of print for years, (and very expensive to buy one now, $$$ ). But lots of good info and photos. If it's a custom made, one off commercial holster? Might not even be in this book though?

Yeap.
It is a model 1917 or 16 or whatever year..[;)]
They were made in lots of slightly different models in different years.
Like this one.

Yours looks like a model 1916 type.
There are many versions of them, the model number has nothing to do with the gun, ie a model 1917 is not for a model 1917 pistol.
The pic I posted is a model 1916 made in about 1942.
see here for the different types made.
