GI 45 auto question
I have two Colt 1911A1 pistols, one traceable to '43 and the other '44. The earlier one has the serial # also on the slide under the firing pin retainer. I only ever saw two of these and the other's numbers didn't match. Is this rare or just Ho-Hum? Would that add to value?

colt matched the slides to the frames for a period of time the slides were marked under the firing pin retainer and should match the number on the frame this serial were marked some part above the firing pin hole and the other part below the firing pin hole however when a squad of pistols were cleaned in the arms room it is common that parts from different pistols were but together thus this matching of parts were lost forever matching numbers are a + but how much increase in Value [?][?][?]condition of the pistol and correct vintage parts are more in setting value. as well as original finish or rebuild & refinish by military or later by BUBBA 0 -
Colt started serial numbering the slides in 1924. Continued until at least 1943.
Personally I believe it would add value. If the Colt is in original condition. As Karl notes in his post though, other factors have to be considered. Best if you were able to get a hands on, from a honest and knowledgeable collector or dealer.
