Sounds like a mismatch between slide and frame we need pictures to tell you Who made the frame they are all marked with serial # and

Those were allocated a block of serial numbers the frames can also be identified as to maker by the inspector marks. to different Makers.Remington Rand slide SHOULD be on a WW II frame not a 1911 But rather a 1911A1
editYes Remington UMC made slides for pistols produced in WW I Just like Colt Savage and Springfield [^] However Remington Rand and Remington UMC share only two things The first letter of both their names and what they made . Just like BUICK and BMW that both make cars

To answer your questions, quality close up photos are needed. The original finish on the Colt frame. Wouldn't match the finish, on the W W II era Remington Rand slide. Unless it was a U.S. arsenal rework.

If the Colt frame is still in factory original condition? It would be quite valuable, if you could obtain a Colt W W I manufactured slide. And mount it on the frame.

Yes, all military 1911 and 1911A1 slides are interchangeable. A mismatched slide may not line up perfectly at the rear with the frame, but is fully functional. A correct slide would make it more valuable to someone who wants a correct 1911. The sights are better on the Rem. Rand slide: wider and easier to see.

Not to question you, but Remington UMC made a small number of 1911s in 1918 and 1919. Serial numbers between 1 and 21676.

If it is a Parkerized Remington Rand slide, you have nothing really special. If you have a blued Remington UMC slide and correct frame, you have $ 4,500.00 if in good condition.

    EDIT: Re Perry Shooter edit:

I have had a number of people correct me by assuming I meant Remington Rand instead of Remington UMC. Most folks seem to be unaware of the existance of the latter. Was simply pointing out that, after experiencing this reaction (even with the pistol in hand at the range) there are two distinctly different military 1911s with Remington printed on the slide.

    1918 Remington UMC 1911:

It's difficult to make the wrong decision with a USGI .45; they are in demand, even when far from original. A refinished mixed parts gun similar to yours sold for $1,800 on GB last year, which I thought was crazy.

Several years ago I bought a worn mixed parts gun & swapped the slide for one that matched the frame. (I didn't bother replacing "wrong" small parts, as US arsenals never worried about that.) Then, I paid a professional to repark everything:

It looks like it came from US arsenal rebuild, & I enjoy shooting it without fear of damaging a "collector" gun.
