Stevens 414 question
I have what appears to be a Stevens 414 Armory rifle. It has stamped on the lower tang (414) and is identical to all the pictures I've seen of the Stevens 414. On the left side of the receiver it does not have the usual Stevens name and address but rather has: (GOVERNOR JS&S Made in usa.) Does any one know why the unusual markings? The gun is in excellent condition and has a serial number of 69xxx

John Shaw & Sons Co British Sporting Store. Look for proof marks. Probably made by Stevens and Marked them with the store name, Stevens did this for a bunch of hardware stores. 0 -
I would like to see pictures. Sounds interesting. 0 -
I took a picture of the receiver on the Stevens 414 and put it on my computer. I don't know how to put the picture on the forum. Please help. I tried to use the icon insert image but to no avail. 0 -

In response to Greg's (tipups) reply about John Shaw & Sons. I goggled John Shaw and Sons on the internet and I confirm you were right on. The article indicated that John Shaw used the trademark " GOVERNOR" and "JS&S with a "special centrifugal symbol" all of which are on the receiver of the Stevens 414. Thank you so much Greg for solving my long search for the answer. 0 -
You're welcome. That is what makes the forum enjoyable. Knowledge.
As for the picture posting you need to upload to a third party hosting site such as photobucket.
I believe there is a post that gives instructions on how to do the operation.0
