Ruger 44 carbine ammo.
Hi, looking for info on what kind of 44 ammo to use in my 68'Ruger 44 carbine.I have some factory 240 gr xtp ,would this be safe in the tube fed magazine,as far as hitting primers? I believe they call for flat nosed bullets.Any information would be appreciated,Thank you.

My deer hunting buddy has used his vintage tube fed Ruger Carbine for decades and his favorite cartridge is the Winchester Super-X .44 Magnum 240 Grain Hollow Soft Point . There is a jacketed soft point alternative (not hollow) that is probably the same ballistically. Both have flat noses, are jacketed, and work just fine in his carbine. He has compared many alternative cartridges at the range and is emphatic that his rifle likes these the best. Has shot many big bucks out to a hundred yards with great bullet performance. I should add that he has had trouble finding the hollow point ammo lately but the Jacketed Soft-Point Ammo is more available. 0 -
From the Ruger manual, which is available online, they state that any factory ammunition as long as it is jacketed. Which is best for your gun will have to be done by testing. 0 -
Because it is a gas operated system, do not ever feed it unjacket bullets. If you do, it will clog up the gas port.
That said, any near maximum jacketed load will work. If you are reloading, they like near maximum doses of H-110, and W-296.
