FIXED CHOKE IDENTIFICATION
How can you tell if the barrels on fixed choke shotguns are Full, Mod, IC etc etc. On the barrels of the Over Under I have, they are marked with 4 stars and 3 stars.

Find your gun here, generally the more stars the looser the choke.

It would help to know what make of O/U.
This is for Browning
* designates full choke (F).
*- designates improved modified choke (IM).
** designates modified choke (M).
**- designates improved cylinder choke (IC).
**$ designates skeet (SK).
*** designates cylinder bore (CYL).
Identification Stars on Spanish shotguns
Cyl. = ***** stars
Improved Cylinder = **** stars
Modified = *** stars
Improved Modified = ** stars
Full = * star0 -
In addition to the info above:
"Most" 12 ga. measure the following:
Bore= .727"
SKT = .727"
IC = .719"
MOD = .715"
Full= .697"
A US dime is .705" dia. - so if a dime won't fit you know the 4 star is Full and can assume the 3 star is modified. If you have instruments you can measure the dia.

Pattern it on paper, 30" circle at 40 yards from the muzzle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choke_(firearms) 0 -
