Will GSG Produce an MP40 SBR or Pistol Version?

I'll ask the obvious question: Have you contacted ATI and made an inquiry?

Failing that, I see some trouble looming ahead. Firstly, National Firearms Act weapons such as SBRs have been non importable for civilian sales since 1968, so that would preclude GSG from sending complete SBRs into the country for purposes other than LE sales. This would mean that ATI, the importer, would have to modify the rifles upon arrival in the good old USA. The $64 question is whether ATI is a licensed Class II firearms Manufacture and a Special Occupational Taxpayer? If they are not, then they cannot manufacture NFA firearms.

Why don't you just buy the complete rifle, register it on a Form 1 as a SBR and then when it is approved simply cut off the fake can yourself, or take it to a gun smith? As long as he preforms the modifications while you wait and you have the approved Form 1, the smith does not need any special licensing. This would also remove the transfer of a factory firearm through a Class 3 Dealer, unless of course ATI is also licensed to sell NFA firearms and you can deal direct with them in South Carolina, but since your profile shows CO, that seems unlikely.

I've seen various articles on the web that claim GSG (imported by ATI) will produce a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) or pistol version of their 22LR MP40.

Can you cite these articles? Who is saying this?

Pistol version is possible, I guess.

Short barreled rifle version? I strongly doubt it. There are legal issues at play in importing those. More important, total market demand for such a gun probably wouldn't make building these in numbers economically viable.

The few potential buyers who might want something like this are probably going to find it relatively easy to modify existing guns.

Supposedly, the short version will lose the faux suppressor, but either have the butt permanently folded or have no butt hardware at all.
As above, what amounts to a conventional pistol is one thing; that should be relatively straightforward in terms of marketing and distribution. SBR something different entirely.

GSG's website has been silent on the pistol version. Does anyone have inside information on the GSG's plans for a SBR or pistol version of their MP40? What about forecast production and sales dates?

No inside information. Why don't you contact GSG directly and ask THEM? Maybe they'll give you "nothing", but you might be surprised at what they tell you (ie a flat out "no", or "we're looking into it", etc).
