Bent Smith and Wesson Yoke

How can I fix a bent yoke on a Smith and Wesson premodel 10?

  I would track down a S&W armorer with the bar of Babbitt metal they were issued with to beat such things back into line. I am not "mechanically inclined" enough to try it myself.

  Another approach might be to buy a used yoke. However, there are several types of M&P revolvers, & with neither photos nor the serial number we really don't know what you own.
  
  Your best bet would, again, be to try to find a local gunsmith who specializes in S&W's; he, hopefully, would have some "parts guns" that he could use, & fit a yoke to your gun. The odds are that any random yoke that you bought at auction would require at least some skilled fitting work.

  EDIT: If you have a relationship with the local 'smith, he might be willing to ship your gun via US Mail for you. If you ship yourself, you can only use UPS or FedEx Next Day Air, which will likely run $80 each way.

  Simple. Take it out and lay it on an anvil or something like it and with a light ballpeen hammer, reshape it.
  It's not rocket science.

  The best way is to use a cylinder alignment tool- it is a rod turned to both yoke ID and cylinder pin dimensions.
  
  Using the alignment tool and a babbit (like said earlier) or a soft wedge between the gun's frame and yoke, the yoke is tapped or driven in the direction needed to align the cylinder pin hole to the yoke.
  
  After aligning the yoke, then careful consideration must be given to barrel/cylinder alignment using what is called a range rod. The gun will shave or spit if this not addressed.
  
  These tools are not unfamiliar to anyone that is competent with S & W work- like a good pistolsmith or armorer.

  I have a S&W factory trained gunsmith I use in the St. Louis area who is excellent, has all the tools. He does warranty work for S&W as well as fixing new product that fails QC inspections. PM me if you want his contact info. I can recommend him without hesitation.
