Cobray Adapter Question??????

I remember those little do-dads. They were very popular items at gun shows years ago. The BATF ruled that a two liter soda bottle was considered to be a silencer if attached to a firearm using the adaptor, and that was the end of that.

The adaptor is perfectly legal, but not with a bottle attached to a gun. I can't see any reason it cannot be sold on Gun Broker, but toss in a disclaimer about the buyer complying with all National Firearms Act regulations.

Don't list it. From what I remember they are now considered a silencer. Check the ATF websight to be sure. But I wouldn't want to deal with it unless you have the proper licenses or tax stamps.

Not true! Every component of a silencer, by itself, is considered a silencer now!

It wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong, and I don't mind admitting it if I am. With that said, there are endless parades of adaptors out there that allow for the installation of everything from a MAGLITE flashlight to an oil filter onto the muzzle of a firearm for the purpose of acting as a suppressor, so I have to ask if the Cobray 2-liter adaptor is specifically restricted?

No... they are all technically illegal silencers. You can buy legit, papered oil filter adapters, for example... that would be ok. The ones sold as an aid to cleaning your barrel with no tax form would be a felony to use and possibly to simply posses if you also had the filter and the firearm. (within the US... they obviously may be legal elsewhere)
