Mossberg 930 vs Weatherby SA459
I would like to hear opinions regarding the Mossberg 930 Blackwater and/or the Weatherby SA459 Threat Response shotguns as defensive weapons.
I know the Mossberg has a higher capacity and that the Weatherby is lighter.
I have read poor reliability issues with the 930 on this forum but could find nothing good or bad about the 459.
I am open to other model suggestions.
Would like to stay under $800.
Thank You

If you want to stay under the $800.00 range, then you need a Remington 870. I dislike semi-automatic shotguns for defense, police work, or any other situation where one is depending on it to save your hide. The reason being, is that one cannot get a reliable one for under $1000.00, that is not gas operated.
Now as for the Remington 870, think of it as the 10-22 of shotguns. There are several aftermarket goodies, from magazine extensions, stocks, sights, sight mounts, slings, and cartridge saddles, and more.
One can get an Express version for under $300.00, and then add to it what they want to.
If you are stuck on semi-automatic, you want to look for one that is recoil driven, not gas...IMHO. If you do go with a gas gun, you immediately want to replace the factory O-Ring, with one made of Viton.

I have no problem with both of my Mossbergs 930s. I use one for turkey hunting and the other for general small game hunting. There not as nice as my Remington 1100 or my Browning gold, but they work for me. Lew 0 -
Maybe a semi-auto is not such a good idea after all.
Both my Mossberg 590 and 500 pumps are hi-capacity.0
