The reason your 1892 has no proofmark, is it was made before such time that a proofmark was required. I also have a couple like that, one made in 1895, and the other in 1897. Yours, appears to be made in about the middle of the second year of production. They didn't start proofmarking, until after 1900, if I am correct.

Bert H., can almost assuredly can give you the month it was made in.

    EDIT 1

    You mean proof marked?

Winchester did not begin using the superposed "WP" proof mark until April/May of 1905. The only reason that an earlier production Winchester should have proof marks stamped on it, is if it was returned to the factory for a new barrel... after 1908.

Serial number 18000 was manufactured in October of 1893.

Hello to both guns-n-painthorses and tsr1965,

The Model 1892 rifles were not proof stamped (edit) until right around number 300,000 approximately mid 1905 production. I would love to add your three rifles into the survey I am working on. I will be more than glad to answer any further questions either of you might have about your rifles. Please take a look at this link and you can contact me via the included email address in the link. http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=606355

    Thanks so much
