Ruger problem
Just got a ruger SR 22 bought new problem is it shoots fedreal 22's fine but I ran some winchester super x threw it and it jams, case's stick in the chamber'fires one at a time. Now I know everyone's going to say just shoot fedreals' but this is a 22 rimfire it should any 22 you put in it.I sent it back to Ruger with a note about telling them the problem. They replaced the barrel and tuned up the clips. said they fired 50 rounds of fedreal 36 gr no problems. my note said win. 22's that was the empty case that was shipped with the gun.So gun come's back jam jam one shot stick.Called Ruger they said sorry don't use win super x.Has anyone had this problem with a 22 pistol thanks

The only 22 LR ammo that works in my pumps Remington and Winchester and in my High Standard HD-M and Ruger MkII pistol is CCI MiniMags.
Most 22 ammo made today might work ok in my Erma single shot trainer.
added http://www.ruger.com/products/sr22Pistol/ What an ugly pistol IMHO. I had to put a new ejector in my Mk11 when it was brand new. The empty would get trapped behind the fresh round feeding up from the magazine causing a jam. Ruger's and their service have never impressed me. Ruger - boat anchor.0 -

Winchester .22 RF ammo, varies substantially more than other brands. I have shot at least (4) different kinds, over the last 2 1/2 years. Because of the Obama ammo panic.
Wildcat and Dynapoint, don't function reliably in my semi autos. Super X and 555's have a very blunt soft hollowpoint. Than will jam and malfunction, if the magazine isn't tuned to feed them correctly. The lips of the magazine have to be adjusted, so that the cartridge is released to the center of the chamber. If the lips aren't tuned, the HP with the large flat nose, made out of soft lead. Jamb quite frequently. Because the soft flat point, usually gets caught on the top of the chamber entrance.
EDIT #1,
Recoil spring tension, also affects function. Recently had problems with a Sig Sauer 226/22, .22 rim fire. Would only work with hyper velocity .22's. Bought a lighter recoil spring off Wolff. Even than i had to cut it back 1.4", to get it to work with Federal Automatch 22's. Didn't want to cut back the original spring.0 -
The Ruger SR 22, is a knock-off, of the Walther P-22, which I presume is made by the same company, GSG, out of Germany. I help a friend in his gun shop, and have examined both, and briefly, owned the Walther P-22.
That said, both are prone to being picky about what you fed them. It is what it is, and there is no other way around it, but to feed it what they like.
These are not built to the same quality standards as the old Hi-Standard's, Ruger MK 1's, II's, or III's, etc. You get what you pay for.

FWIW, my daughter has a SR22 and it eats everything.
When you say that cases stick in the chamber, does this mean that the extractor is slipping off the rim or that the slide assembly is not travelling back to extract the case?
Gotta believe it's something simple.
If the slide isn't travelling back far enough to eject the fired case, you need to tune the recoil spring. I wouln't blame the pistol, as stated, there is a large variance in 22 ammo velocity.0 -
I'd say the slide assembly not extracting the case. I guess I'll just keep shooting the federals it shoots ok with those shells and I also used some rem.22 and they were alright. 0 -
GSG guns require high velocity ammunition and on my gun, it states 22LR HV. Shooting anything else will pretty much guarantee you have a single shot. 0 -

I agree that it is likely something simple. Different gun (Beretta 21a), same problem (liked HV CCIs only which are difficult to find & expensive if you do). Actually a couple of problems: FTF & FTE but mostly the latter with a wide variety of ammo. Try using a Dremel tool with a pointed polishing bit and some rouge. Disassemble pistol and polish the feed ramp until very smooth. Attach a 22 cal bronze brush to a section of cleaning rod, insert into a drill, insert the cleaning brush way into the chamber (almost to the rifling and polish the chamber using a slow speed and keeping the rod inline with the bore. A full minute or two should be enough. Clean everything very well, lube IAW Ruger's manual with a good quality lube and try other ammo. This improved the Beretta so that it would at least shoot Remington Goldens (more available than CCIs). If it doesn't work on your Ruger, you haven't wasted your time. Your gun will be cleaner, will feed more reliably, you'll be more familiar with the Ruger and will have eliminated a potential cause of the extraction problem. I'd recommend the above before altering or buying a new spring.0 -
My wife has an SR22. She has fired several hundred rounds through the pistol and not a single jam. She has fired CCI Mini Mags and (get ready for this) Remington Golden Bullets.
On the other hand I have a Marvel 22 caliber conversion unit for my 1911's. I have fired almost every brand of HV 22 ammunition available through this unit including some very expensive Eley match quality ammo and the only two brands that function reliably are CCI Mini Mags and (get ready for this) Remington Golden Bullets.
Marvel recommends both Remington and CCI ammunition in their manual and states not all brands of ammunition will fire reliably in their unit. They recommend a 10 lb recoil spring. I recently purchased an after market 9 lb spring and it made the pistol shoot even more reliably with almost no jamming.
You might try firing ammunition that works with your SR22 for 500 or 1000 rounds to break it in and then switch back to the Winchester and see if they work without jamming then. Also keep your pistol clean. Try reducing the recoil spring power.
