Did they ever make this gun with barrel marked for 22 short only. Serial number dates to 1895. #55XXX

  Barrel marked model 90, round barrel, 22 WRF, crescent butt, matching serial numbers. Serial number 533100. Can someone tell me what this is.

  short only,long only,WRF only ,1918 or so 22Lr

  The guns were caliber specific.

  This one says 22 short and is 1895 manufactur

  My dad had a octagon barreled one in 22 shot that looked brand new. He had from the early 30's. It was a "gallery rifle" option. He sold it to a collector friend for a lot of money, but I got all the ammo. I much prefer my 1906 S,L,LR. The Remington 512 barrel on it shoots just fine.

  All 1890's are caliber specific, meaning there are none marked "22 Short, Long, Long Rifle".
  
  22 Short only is by far the most common.
