stevens 39a bolt question
Last week i picked up a stevens 39a, when looking over the firearm a little more closely i discovered that when opening the bolt to reload if you pull back and up at the same time it de cocks the bolt leading to the possibility of an out of battery discharge, what would be causing this?

Could be worn parts, or a bubba trigger job. Perhaps dried grease/crud preventing full engagement of the trigger #28 with the striker' retainer working surface #4 cocking piece. Weak trigger spring #27
Could be lots of play in the fit between the receiver #24 and the bolt body #7, from poor manufacturing, miss matched replacement parts or thousands of hours of dry firing watching westerns.

Added I once had to weld up the working surfaces and recut them on a bolt action 410 because it would "fire" if you looked at it wrong. Bubba is very resourceful and knows no bounds for what can be improved.0 -
Im not thinking bubba would fool with the trigger on a bolt action .410, added, I agree there are some rather stupid folks trying to "improve" their firearms 0
