Remington 1100 gas ports - barrels
I have a 1100 and I have two barrels. A 28" fixed modified choke and a 30" Rem-choke barrel. The 28" barrel has two gas ports and the 30" has only one. Action cycles flawlessly with the 28" barrel but won't eject with the 30". Can a second gas port be drilled in the 30" barrel? Thanks

Check the 30 inch barrel. One port should be marked for 3 inch shells. To answer your question. Two way to do this. Drill another hole or enlarge the single hole. Or shoot high brass shells in the 30 inch barrel 0 -
" Two way to do this. Drill another hole or enlarge the single hole. Or shoot high brass shells in the 30 inch barrel..............NOT A GOOD IDEA TO DRILL (OR ENLARGE) HOLE. SOME TIME, SOME ONE WILL TRY TO SHOOT A 3" SHELL IN THE BARREL (MARKED 3") AND BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE ACTION. 0 -
I think they say to shoot 3 inchers it should be a 3" bbl with a3" reciever marked MAGNUM. Yes?? 0 -
The receivers are all the same..except for roll mark MAGNUM"... The chamber is wholly in the barrel as is the ejector... a 3" barrel on a standard receiver will not hurt a thing, cause the single gas port controls the recoil of the bolt....

I could be wrong but IIRC 2 3/4 and 3 inch receivers are not the same as the magnum opening is longer to allow ejection of the longer shell. If you put a 3 inch chamber barrel into a standard receiver, the shell will jam on ejection. Again IIRC0 -
Wrong!!!!! measure them...I did..

a 2-3/4 inch Remington 1100 receiver can be used with a 3 inch barrel to shoot STEEL SHOT only. to shoot 3 inch lead you must have a 1100 Magnum receiver 0 -

This is internet data, seem multiple times in various forum, I don't know if it is accurate
If you look at the mail order companies you can find a barrel called the steel shot. It allows people to shoot 3 inch steel loads on guns 2 3/4 guns, but cautions those people not to shoot 3 inch lead. It goes on to say that on a Magnum gun, you can shoot 3 inch steel or lead with this barrel. Again this is the difference in the action bar being more heavy duty.0
