Japanese carbine questions
I just picked up a Jap Rifle. I assume it's an Arisaka and a Carbine.
It has the Mum intact, the Bolt Shroud, the Bayonet and frog, and the cleaning rod.
First question, how do you remove the cleaning rod? I've tried squeezing the springs that hold the barrel bands in place and pulling and twisting the rod!
No wonder we won the war!
How do you know the caliber? I'm getting ready to list it here soon and am hoping to have most questions ready to be answered! Is my guess of about $300-350 close?
Thanks in advance?

The clean rod may just screw in. don't remember for sure. Caliber s/b 6.5mm Jap. Some fool may pay that much for it, the way prices are going these days. 0 -
Let me know what else in particular you want to see.
Thanks
Ed
I found the cleaning rod release and it appears cut or broken. It only measures 14" and the barrel measures 20" Oh well!!

The double gas holes in the receiver ring are indications it is a 6.5. However, that cut-out in the stock at the receiver ring usually suggests it's a DeWaT, ie, the chamber drilled or welded shut. 0 -

Nothing appears drilled or welded shut......0 -
I think the idea back then was to team up with another soldier and screw your clearing rods together to form a cleaning rod. 0 -
Looks like a T-38 Carbine to me. Which 6.5MM Jap caliber. The cut out on the side of stock is normal. Barrel is 19". 0 -
It says it's a Type 38 right on the receiver. To remove the cleaning rod, look for a little push button just aft of the bayonet lug. Push in on it while pulling the cleaning rod. Someone has pushed the rod past it stop, so you may have to take the stock off to get it out.
That's a real nice carbine from what I see, so your asking price is fair. The little Kana next to the serial number would tell what arsenal made it, so it you post a photo, I'll tell you.0 -
