Recently I took a T/C Contender with a 357 Maximum bbl. on trade can any one tell me anything about this round? I do not have any info about it. The previous owner said it has ballistics close to a 44 mag. is this true? Was $380.00 a good deal for this gun 99 loaded shells and 36 empties, he also said the 36 empties are all this gun was shot. Thanks for any replies

    Ruger made a handgun.

From what I understand, it was only the T/C barrels for their Contender pistols, and perhaps the Carbine barrels.

I would love to see it in a Marlin 1894, and/or a Winchester 1892. That would be a great little rifle.

Harrington and Richardson made one for awhile

I believe that cartridge is too long to work in a Marlin 94 or a Winchester 92. I have one of the old Ruger Blackhawks that were made for a short time.

    The H&R Handi-Rifle, as Savage170 stated. A single-shot break-open design.

IRCC, the Savage 24 was available in 357Max\20 Gauge.
Also the Pachmayr Dominator was also chambered in Dan Wesson's version of the Max.

Not a rifle, I own a 10 inch Seville Stainless revolver in that caliber. I also plan to convert a handi rifle in 357 Magnum to Maximum soon.

I think Marlin may have seen the 357 Max as kind of pointless in a lever gun, as it would have required a long action and they already made a 35 Remington.
