Winchester 70 bolt interchange
Will a magnum face bolt from a new model 70 work in a Pre 64 Win 70 receiver?

It has to be headspaced, and fitted properly. They are not plug-n-play. That is if they are still made to the same print, and you would need a Model 70 Classic, with the claw type extractor.

Don't think so.

Thanks Babun, the reason for my asking is the bolt cycles fine in my pre 64 70 in 243. It's a tad tight when closing the bolt the last 1/4" but the trigger and safety work fine. 0 -
A long time ago I tried fitting three pre64 M70 bolts (they all had a standard length then) in different pre64 M70 rifles; and they were a tight fit and wouldn't close so I stopped at that point. This came about when I read an article by James Carmichael where pre64 M70 bolts was inadvertently switched during cleaning while on a safari. The result was that one bolt broke off when one of the rifles was fired. It makes you wonder sometimes - Yea "Plug and Play" it is not. 0 -
I've purposely tried different bolts for feel fit in win 70 rifles and NO, not plug and play.
I always make sure that the ser# of the gun is on he bolt of a gun, especially Win 70's.
Even if a bolt has a good feel fit do not attempt test firing until it's has the headspace checked.0
