m44 replacement stock
Anybody know where I can get a milsurp replacement stock for my M44 Nagant without breaking the bank. I looked on the auction side, but don't to spend as much on the stock as I have in the rifle.

Thanks but that is about what I paid for the whole gun. 0 -
When gunparts has them in they are around $35.00. You may just want to keep chcking with them. 0 -
That is what they should cost. 0 -
What you paid for the gun is what's known as "sunk cost". Unfortunately, it has no bearing on the current market value of stocks.
I've seen beat but serviceable milsurp M44 stocks on on Flea-Bay for as little as $50 shipped. You could look there.
FWIW, even though for years you could buy M44 guns for $100, the surplus M44s have mostly dried up now. Hard to believe, but the "re-arsenalled" ones are currently going for $220-$260, and that price probably isn't going to go down. Even the "normal" 91-30s are running over $150. Given the above, $80 for a Mosin stock isn't as "crazy" as it was once.
I definitely see the appeal of an authentic stock, but IMO if you actually want to shoot it, there is nothing wrong with putting a modern stock on one. IE you're probably not a 5'5" Russian peasant wearing a thick wool jacket, and the 19th century stock ergonomics do leave a little bit to be desired. Conventional (eg Monte-Carlo) type stock makes this a lot nicer to shoot.

Mike what's wrong with the stock you have?
With the import of the trashed out Chinese T53's, the price of replacement stocks is going nuts0 -
It is badly cracked in two places. One of them was where an arsenal repair was previously done at the toe of the stock. The other is on the right side from just about the mouth of the chamber to just about the wrist. I could take it to my gunsmith, but I think some new to her wood would serve the old girl better. 0 -
Right now on the auction side, seller 'tjonesoutdoors' has an M44 parts set for sale, including wood. 0
