Which Is The Best Ar-15
I was wondering which AR most people like. I am looking to get 1 more and i would like it to be one of the best. Thanks David.

The best is what you like the best.
IMO, the best for the money is a Stag Piston AR.
The best I own, is an LWRC piston.
The one I shoot the best is a scoped Fulton Armory Varmint.
The one that I enjoy the most is a Colt Match Target HBAR.0 -

Again, "best" in what way? Most accurate? Most reliable? Best for hunting? (Hunting DEER? Hunting Coyotes, etc). Best for combat? (Desert combat? Urban combat? Home defense? etc).
I'd say the "best" is the one that does what you WANT it to, the best.
What you want is something that's build solidly by a reputable maker, using high quality parts, that has the configuration and features you want/like. That's pretty nebulous, but the AR platform is so modular, and there are so many types of grips, stocks, sights, barrels, and every other part out there now, that you can have a gun made just about any way you like.
"Best" or not, I'd say for most people a "standard" AR-15 by any of the major makers is plenty "good enough", and although you can certainly pay a lot more for something "custom" that's "better", that doesn't necessarily mean you'll see any real world advantage.
The fact is probably 99% of AR users fire their gun only at the range, and only infrequently. For someone like that, so long as the thing goes "bang" every time, its good enough for the hypothetical (and probably never going to happen) "SHTF scenario".
If you're a SWAT team member, or a soldier, or someone else likely to actually fire your gun in "anger" then gun specs are going to matter a lot more.
If you're a competitive target shooter, a hunter, etc, again, specs matter more.0 -
I have a LWRC, HK, and 2 S&W M&P's.
The LWRC M6A3 DMR and HK MR556A are piston and the S&W's are DI.
I usually shoot the pistons from the bench and as they as piston they are the most expensive.
For off hand shooting and informal 3 gun matches, I usually shoot most are the S&W's. I also use the S&W lower receivers as the basis for builds I do.
I build the lower receiver out with the trigger and stock I like and then either build or buy an upper. I have more uppers than recievers and switch uppers based on the type of shooting I am doing.0 -
I like my Colt, 2 Stags, a Bushmaster and two others that escape right now. All shoot very good. Take your pick. I haven't seen bad ones [;)] 0 -
That is a vague question you can pay anywhere from $600-$3000 for one.
I have Armalites, Colts CMMG's Stag's and some home brews they all do the job they were intended for. Mine are all pretty much job specific but they can do double duty if needed. You said you want another one. What is the other more or less intended specifically to do and what was your purpose for the second one ???? If one wants to just plink and shoot for fun, then pretty much anything will do just fine. You certainly don't need to spend 3k on a plinker.0 -
My version of "Best" is one that has all the parts mated specifically to what I want it for.
If I want a truck gun I can assemble a frankengun. How long do you want it? what has to go along with that length?
But, if I want a precision rifle, then I want the upper/lower made to match. I want the bolt lugs lapped to the barrel extension to fit just right. On a match barrel. I want an adjustable gas system so when I change ammo I can adjust for that.
If it's 5.56 it's pretty open. If it's another "purpose" round on the -15 platform I want the gun tuned to that.
As noted you can pay anywhere's from $500 on up to $3000+ getting it the way you want.0 -
There are several threads on this, if you use the search.
I have stated before, if you get a quality manufacturer, you will do your best. I do not have any PISTON guns, as I see no reason for it. The gas impingement guns work just fine. The piston guns are designed to run cooler in prolonged firefights. The direct gas impingement guns are more accurate than the PISTON guns...iepecially the free floating hand guard designs.
Stick to brands like STAG, S&W, Colt, DPMS, Rock River, and you will do fine.

I'd say the one you slapped together with the components you like. Unlike an AK you can Frankenstien the AR. 0 -
If you mean functionally, I'd think the question may be who makes the best lower and in my opinion that would be Rock River. I have a Rock River Varmintor which after proper break in I used to hunt prairie dogs in Montana. In a few years I had fired about six thousand rounds through it with no malfunctions. Trigger was very good, upper and lower were tight, it cleaned up very well and shot tiny groups always. The rifle still looks great with very little wear. 0
