"they look to be original barrels with proof marks and all"..........if they are original barrels they should have 5 grove barrels, not easy to slug and measure. you could reload and use .312" bullets, not closing in a go gage is ok IF they will chamber and closed on factory ammo.

  Theoretically, you could tell the difference between P14 and 1917 barrels with a plug or hole gauge. The P14 has a nominal bore diameter of .303", the 1917 should be .300". Of course wartime production tolerances can mess with that.

  Thanks for coming back with more info. I've ordered some cerrosafe and am going to use this opportunity to learn more about casting/measuring chambers and bores. A friend with a specialty machine shop has offered to help with correct measuring of the casting results. again Thank you
