Remington 81 Caliber ??
I have a Remington 81 that was MFG in 1937 and I do not know what the caliber is for this rifle. Can anybody help me figure out what it is. The research that I have found is that it could be 4 different one. I thought that all MFG are suppose to marked the barrel and I do not see any markings. All help would be great. Thanks in advance.

If the barrel isn't marked? You might try contacting Remington customer service with the serial number.
The quickest way is to slug the barrel though. The 81 was made mostly, in 300 Savage and 35 Remington. Shouldn't haven't any problem, figuring out the difference. By miking a lead slug driven down the barrel from the muzzle.0 -
My 14 and 141 both had a brass replica of the cartridge head embedded in the left side of the receiver, I thought the 8 and 81 did the same thing. 0 -
4 Choices .300 Savage, .30 Remington, .32 Remington, .35 Remington
Bore size for 30 Rem, 32 Rem and 35 Rem are different. Bolt face will be different (I think) between 300 Sav and 30 Rem.

As forgmonkey said, they are marked on the barrel extension (just in front of the bolt). A friend had one, a model 8, marked ".30-30 Rem." f0r .30 Remington. 0 -
The Remington 81's barrel is inside that big sleeve which also contains one of the recoil springs. Some might thing the sleeve is the barrel - it is not. The two 81s I have are marked on top of the barrel extension 30 Remington and 300 Sav. I don't know where else the rifle's cartridge is marked. 0 -

..............Maybe the caliber was hidden or omitted for security?
