Use pay pal at your great risk for gun stuff, or for anything EVER. The list of those burned by Pay pal on this site is growing almost daily.

Postal Money orders are the best bet. They are just about universal in acceptance.

I like personal and business checks, and I accept them, along with money orders, postal and otherwise.

If you mail a personal check and it gets lost, all you have to do is write another one. If your check ends up being forged and cashed by an unauthorized person, you fill out a forgery affidavit at the bank and you're done.

If you mail a postal money order, or any money order for that matter, and it gets lost, it nearly takes an act of Congress to get your money back. You had to put up your cash to buy it, and if you still want your purchase, you now have to put up the cash again to buy another one, and wait for the process to run to get your money back on the lost one.

The last purchase I made on GunBroker, I paid for with a personal check. I receive personal checks all the time. I have been doing business on GunBroker since it was brand new, and in all that time, I have gotten exactly TWO bounced checks. In both cases, the buyer made good on the check and on the returned check fee.

As you've said, checks would make sense for both sides. As a seller, can your bank indicate fairly quickly that a buyer's check cleared?
I've sold quite a few lots on eBay, but haven't gotten a check in recent memory, if ever.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I didn't realize Paypal was on that much of a witch hunt. Are they headquartered in the United States, or in California [:)] ?

But, for small stuff, the convenience of Paypal can't be beat. So, some sellers will use the code words "discrete Paypal accepted".

What that really means is, neither party will reveal the actual firearms-related items being purchased. Let's say I am selling you a firing pin for a rifle; where Paypal asks what the payment is for, I only say "hardware", or something else that doesn't really say that it is a gun part.

If Paypal finds out that payment was for a prohibited item, the seller will get his ovaries busted, which means the account (& money) will be frozen for 6 months or longer.

If you use PayPal gift/friend payment, they don't know what the hell it is for[^]
Also, at about all the firearm parts that are sold on ebay [?][?]

Yep, PP can be used as long as nobody is stupid. I sold an AR upper here on GB. A fella in Texas bought it. He asked if he could pay with PP, and I give him a recipt for motorcycle parts. It worked well, but you have to know that nobody's gonna do anything dumb.

Other than that I agree with nunn on accepting checks. A lot of sellers on here are "USPS money order only". That is their right, as it is their auction, but I just click the back button on those. I have no interest in making a special trip to the post office to get a money order.

As a buyer, I too don't like to use Postal MOs. The long lines at the PO and they are more expensive than commercial MOs. The only commercial ones I don't like are those from CVS stores. They require to see your drivers license.

Look at Paypals user agreement no gun stuff. I had my Paypal account locked for over a year. Not because of a single auction. It was for other auctions I had going. If you sell on ebay it is not worth loosing your account over here. You can try to skip around it but they have access to all your other auctions as well and that's what happened to me. Just don't do it.[;)]
