Smith and Wesson Centennial question

A friend came by tonight with a Smith and Wesson Centennial. Flat latch, 4 screw, in pretty good shape. He got it from his dad who had no need for it. The serial # is 4 digit about 1510 (not the exact number). When was it made? It must be a very early production.

  They started production in 1952. My WAG with a 4 digit number, in the 1500's. That's very likely when it was made.
