1911 mag locks back mid load
I changed the slide lock on a Kimber older Custom Gold Match to a Wilson extended one.
The slide locks back after 3 or 4 rounds. I release it and it continues fine.
It does not do this with the original slide lock..
I have one on a RIA 2011 which was on a Charles Daly for years and never caused a problem.
Does it wear in or what?

I think forgemonkey covers all the bases.
I had two extended slide stops of different brands and designs. Both were bad about premature slide lock, so I went back to standard and no problems.0 -
I ran a bunch of ammo through the Kimber right after I posted. results were one hang up on one mag one time.
I could not duplicate the slide staying open again.
I noticed one mag seemed odd when I reloaded them on my return (I keep all mag loaded not load them when I want to go)
As I was loading it seemed hard to push the round in and they refused to fall out when I unloaded them (Maglula pistol loader) and can see the mag was narrow. I measured and it was way too narrow like for a 40 (not quite).
I use Chip McCormick for my practice mags (Wilson and Tripp for all SD) as they are not as perfect and I like having to train through various occasional problems.
I will check all the notations from forgemonkey and see what I can find.
I would be surprised if the Wilson slide lock is not right but it can happen to the best of them
Thanks for all the suggestions FM
Update:
The shafts mic exactly the same
However, the internal part that I assume is the slide stop is .010 taller or bigger.
I can not be sure but being the one mag is undersized in the top opening and on occasion I have a failure to feed I would bet if I removed that mag from the line up I would not have any further problem.
On other gun it does not pick up a round but on the Kimber with the new slidestop it locks back the mag.
Further testing is required and testing is so infectious. its the hunt
The shaft on the extended one on the RIA (I added that from another 1911) which works fine is .009 smaller0 -
If you see the indentation at the bottom of #2 in the picture that is how the original slidestop looks.
the Wilson does not have the indent. Instead it continues down so the bottom runs straight across. That is where there is a difference.
I must retest but at this point I believe the problem is a magazine that is out of spec. The top opening is smaller making it harder to insert rounds and they will not fall out when the maglula is used like they do for all other magazines.
I will not be able to retest until tomorrow afternoon0 -
One hang up in 7 mags and I did not use the out of spec mag.
I will run the old slide stop and see if I can get it to do that.
these CP McCormick mags occasionally do this on other guns. Wilson and Tripp do not but this is more often that "occasional although 1 in 56 rounds is not a lot anything less than 100% is unacceptable except for training where i do want problems to practice working through them
This is not a SD gun so it is not a make a break like it would be for a SD but I expect perfection from a gun like this.
My Nighthawk does not do this neither does my Sig 1911 TACOPS0
