    Post photos, using the instructions on this link. Somebody might be able to identify the powder from the photos of the can, and it's markings.

    Sounds like it may be a keg of DuPont Pistol #6 which was developed from Dupont MX Shotgun powder ca. 1930s.

    But, that's only a guess based on the limited description.

    Need to see pics.
    Dupont used to sell powders labeled with numbers like "17 1/2" was military rifle....
    "30" was rifle powder....."7" was pistol, and others.

    Dupont #6 was a replacement for their #5 Pistol powder. Both were used
    extensively in the 45ACP. Number 6 Pistol was not particularly well received and Dupont went back to the original #5 but relabeled it as
    5066.
