Remington Model 14 Firing Pin Extension

Did all of the Model 14s have the hooked firing pin extension or was it added later? My 14R made prior to 1919 does not have it but my 1927 14A does. I thought I was missing something but someone is parting out an early 4 digit s/n Model 14 and the complete bolt from it does not have it. I don't know what the purpose was other that making it easier to compress the spring. I'm having feeding problems with the 14R but I think I have narrowed it down to a broken carrier dog spring, broken carrier dog pin, and a buggered up carrier dog.
