    Part 34A

It's been a long time since I did one, but there could be 2 or 3 iterations of the parts. It is how they hook to the hammer and the frame. I think the plastic head is a cheaper made version of the metal head one and has a lighter spring.

From what I've read, the plastic ones are original old stock parts, so the plastic isn't any less likely to break than the original. That is why the metal ones are preferred. I'm wondering what's the difference between the assembly for the 949, and for the 922. Their website uses the exact same photo for both, so I can't really tell what the differences are that way. I expect that one could be shorter, but if I'm lucky, one just has a different seat (which I could easily fabricate.)

    80sDweeb,
Part numbers 276950A and 276950B are exactly the same. Numrich places a letter after the part # if it fits more than one application. Take and put 276950 (without the letter) in the search box, and you will see what I mean. All H&R plastic headed mainspring guides are the same. Believe it or not, the plastic headed spring is 2 coils longer than the metal headed one. This is because the metal headed guide has a shoulder further down than the plastic headed one.

Thanks, Buttplate! That is very good information, and will be useful to me for many other guns, as well. I ended up getting a plastic part for cheap, which is OK because I needed it to get some timing issues worked out on this gun. If it breaks, I'll make a metal head for it, as I've seen others do on YouTube.

Now to get it working reliably!
