  Can't go by serial number on Remington's - need barrel date code.

  The date code doesn't really look like a date code- it's just a couple letters stamped onto the portside of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. the first letter will be from the word BLACKPOWDER, with each letter corresponding to the month (B=Jan, R=Dec) the second letter needs the chart to see what year it reflects.
