Need an expert on an H&R 922
My brother-in-law asked me if I could repair an H&R 922 that he inherited from his father who had it as a young boy.I do some general gunsmithing so I'm familiar with many revolvers, but this is the first I've come across.
The hammer will not lock on cocking and the trigger does not reset. I can manually reset the trigger and when pulled, the hammer rises and falls as it should. I don't want to take it apart without knowing how to reassemble it and I can't find a schematic on it, just for a 622 on Numrich It is what seems to be and early model. Flat mainspring, one piece wood grip that is secured by one screw into the back strap. It has a brass front sight blade.
I could use some help in determining what parts might be needed as well as how difficult the disassembly and reassembly would be.
Also, would anyone have an idea of manufacture date? The serial number is 169675 with no letter prefix.
Thanks in advance.

Those are not easy fixing,,at least to me. Inexpensive, if I remember pull pin version,,if the cleaning doesn't work and I doubt it will,,it would be a nightmare,,,I expect to little spring is broken or just gone..a gunsmith if you could find one to work on it and KNOW what he is doing would be difficult ot find, and not cost effective ,imo,,,good luck
We have some H&R guys her if they will chime in,,but in the day I tried to fix one, i think was 922 and well,,I didn;t/0 -

part # 17 and 7.
Could have been dropped when cocked and broken the hammer notch. Worn out from dry firing while watching TV. Bubba Trigger Job?
H&R was the best of the cheapies IMHO.0 -
Maybe a broken trigger return spring. A common problem on those type revolvers. You can buy one or make one (from a hacksaw blade or spring wire). Don't be afraid to take it apart. It is a simple design. 0 -
Your 922 is of the old style. The picture on Steve's pages is of the newer style 922. I have repaired many of these older 922's. It will just confuse you. Don't be afraid to take it apart. Like navc130 said, "it's a simple design". He is more than likely correct in assuming it's your trigger return spring. Email me at ronmar68@comcast.net after you disassemble your revolver. I will walk you through the repair process. I have all the parts needed for these old-timers also.
Thank you!

Thanks buttplate. I have a couple of other projects in the works at the moment, but as soon as I get this old lady apart and identify the problem, I will let you know.
