First of all, it is an HK which has a very dedicated following. They are no longer imported. It is very accurate compared other 9mm cabines such as the Uzi. They also has the same action as the MP5 and MP5K which are/was used worldwide by counter terrorist squads as well as the United States Secret Srvice.

When I was selling them in the early 80's they went for around $500 - $600.

Its an HK product that was overpriced to begin with but since they are no longer being made, all the HK fanbois flock to buy them so that they can live out their "Call of Duty" fantasies in XXXL BDU's and be the "coolest kid" at the range, and receiving "handies" from other fanbois who lacked the $$$ to also buy one. This same guy will also usually be too cheap to kick out the $200 to SBR it to make it look more like the MP5 he wishes it was, nor will he kick out the $18k for a transferable trigger pack to actually make it an MP5. Said fanboi will also capitalize on this purchase by posting pics of his toy on every damn gun forum in hopes of obtaining "virtual handies" from other fanbois. Gun will eventually break and the fanboi will get stuck dealing with HK's customer aggravation center who upon finding out that the fanboi is neither an actual "operator" nor the designer of the next video game packed with HK "product placement", will promptly drag him through hell only to not help fix his $4500 rifle. Said fanboi will either make excuses as to why he wasn't worthy of assistance from the Teutonic gods at HK or he'll have an epiphany and list the gun on GB for some other fanboi to repeat the cycle with [;)]

Everyone loves HK's until they gotta work on them or deal with the company. Expect to see rabid fanbois try to chastise me for these statements too, much like some chivalrous man erroneously defending the honor of a whore [:o)]

    Ambrose,

HK's have a loyal fan base, and are considered "KING" of the sheet metal stamping constructed guns. Only the AKM/AK-47 is more reliable, and there is none more accurate, as far as sheet metal guns are concerned. Now that they are no longer imported, supply has dried up, and demand, well, it speaks for itself.

I have several HK sheet metal rifles that are no longer imported or produced and in spite of the length of time these guns have been out of production/importation, the supply of replacement parts does not seem to be drying up.

I only wish that same could be said of their sporting rifles and some of their out of production pistols.

I bought a HK SP 89 in 1994 for $950, I've seen them selling lately on GB for $5000 - $6000, crazy! I think i'll hang onto it for a while, since it was one of the last ones imported into the United States.
