Union Switch & Signal - Reblue
I have a US&S that was unfortunately blued at some point it its life. The frame & slide are both US&S, and the barrel is correct. Although I know it will never be a collectable because it has zero % of its original finish, I do wonder what the current value would be. My guess us about $600 - $800 to the right person.
I considering putting it on the auction side, but wonder if its value would be better if it was expertly restored. Even then, it is still not original and will never command a premium.
Do I sell as is, or do I have the finish removed (if possible) and parkerize in a manner that more closely resembles the original finish.
EDIT:
Thank you all for the responses.
Thanks,
Aaron

I would sell it as is. Any money you spend fixing it is a waste in terms of collectability. I have seen a few in my time but I never got to shoot one as they were collectable my whole life. 0 -
It is what it is and maybe a new collector will be able to own a genuine US&S that he otherwise could never afford. 0 -
sell as is better to have finish changed one time than 2 times 0 -
I think it may depend upon whether your gun was dinged or scratched, & how much it was polished before being blued. In the hands of someone skilled at Parkerizing, it might look really great. (And, in the last couple of years, folks have been paying outrageous prices for refinished 1911A1's.)
You might want to take photos & send them to Chuck at Warpath Vintage, or Dean at DGR, & get an opinion from them.
