Be very careful very hard to kill primers long term yes wd 40 will do it short term but many will come back to life after the wd 40 dries out. when you think it has been killed and it goes BANG it is very loud. I found out the only SURE way was with HEAT in sealed can one at a time but be careful don't get greedy and put 20 in a can at same time They do pack a punch and anvil has lots of force. dont put can on kitchen range if your wife is home.edit if you try to remove anvil make double sure you wear safety glasses I have seen primers left in gun oil/ motor oil/kerosene/WD40/water /etc over a week then empty shell have bullet seated with no powder years later someone uses it as a dummy round and 9out of ten or 99 out of 100 Nothing But sooner or later one will go BANG and stick the bullet in the barrel.[xx(][V]

Put it in a gun for that caliber and pop it.

Oil will kill primers. Let soak in for a few days down the flash hole. If want the loaded round look and be extra safe, kill a new primer and then remove the anvil and the compound, reprime the case with the dead primer.

If you want to approximate the "loaded" look take a fired primer, pop out the anvil, use a flat-nosed punch on a steel plated for a backing and tap it out to original look then load it back into the case.

This. Its the best and most straightforward way, and if its only for one round pretty fast too.

Oil method *can* work, but its unreliable, and sometimes primers "inactivated" this way turn out not to be. I wouldn't do it this way.

I'd also be pretty wary of trying to decap a primer "inactivated" this way. Decapping a "dead" primer that turns out to be live . . .BAD.

We made "Short timer"swagger sticks in the Army with on half of a 50 cal on each end of a 12" stick.
A fellow in the auto/truck repair shop used a torch on a primer resulting in being seriously shot through his upper leg.
He went a nearby MASH unit for repairs.
The surest way to deactivate a primer is in the proper chamber pointed in a safe direction.

The primer in a 50 cal. BMG is about as hot as the old 38 S&W. A buddy found out the hard way they will penetrate your clothes and skin at 20 yards with the short barrel of just the case head.

I want to fill up the holes on the receiver left when the push-through safety was removed from my newer Mdl.94 Trapper.
Maybe I'll go with a shell head with an already fired primer, seems the easiest. I haven't got it nailed down yet whether to fit it flush with the receiver or not.
    Thanks again.

You should turn down a Win Super Speed case to fit and have the old primer with the W inside the ring.
