Karl Gunther Drilling - Pictures
I've googled this, with very limited results.
I just got a beautiful 16 gauge by 8X57R Karl Gunther drilling in, and am having trouble finding value or any other information on this gun. The left barrel is stamped Karl Gunther - Augsburg, I'm sure that is who and where it was made. The right barrel is stamped Heinrich Triebel - Nachfolger. The trigger guard and butt plate are made of a black horn. The action is lightly engraved, it has a set trigger.
Can any one give me link to more information, or semi educated information? I'm going to try to take pictures now, if the sun holds out. I'll post them as soon as I can.
Thanks for the help.

HELLO WD send me some pictures that I can then print off I have a good friend that is an expert on drillings do you know if it is 7X57 JR or JS many pre wat guns were .318 not .323 makes a difference in value also most were rimmed cases not rimless for the bolt action rifles. horn trigger guard is nice most likely pre war . what provisions does it have for scope mounting if any does it have a cartridge trap in the butt stock 0 -
Karl,
The drilling uses standard length 16 gauge shot shells, the owner say's it is 8X57R, he explained it was standard rimmed 8mm round. I don't know much about these. We shot it yesterday, the rifle barrel is amazingly accurate.
I'm waiting on the sun to get in the proper position to take pictures.
I'll post them a bit later today.
Thanks for the help Karl.

According to GOOGLE. "Nachfolger" means successor. My take on this is that Triebel either inherited or bought out Gunther's gunmaking business. After he retired or died.
Germans were very big on proofing guns. Post quality photos of all the proof marks on the watertable and bottom of barrels. This will help date and establish correct cartridges/shells, it was proofed for.0 -
I found mention of a Karl Gunther drilling and a bolt action rifle being carried on the German expedition into Tibet in 1938, but nothing else. 0 -
If you plan on keeping and shooting this drilling give me a email for a lifetime
Experience of drilling(s) ownership. They are all unique and individual. Judged by what you see and not so much who made it. Actually made by a team (artisans) effort , one at a time.
If you plan on selling they currently are listed similar
Ones for you to gauge price. Usually the big price diff is scope/no scope/no provision for scope.
You mentioned very good accuracy , a barrel joined in triangulation to shotgun barrels is
Very stiff and a set trigger plays a big part in accuracy. Lock time is long so hold steady and it will outshoot your ability.0
