Should be just as strong, modern metal and a very stout design.

Pedersoli "rates" their .45-70s for use with smokeless up to 29007 CUP. Their Sharps copies are NOT as strong as a Ruger and probably not as strong as a Marlin.
This will still get you onto the "1886" page in the Lyman manual. Pedersoli recommends the Accurate Arms manual, look under "standard pressure, approx. 28000 psi"
Is a 400 grain bullet at 1700 fps enough for you?

Any Italian made .45-70 will have been proof tested for that pressure, so it won't blow up, but that is not saying how long the cheap ones will hold up with a "steady diet" of top loads.

If you want more power in a Sharps, get a Shiloh and talk to Kirk, the owner, about heavy loads.

get a ruger if you want to turn a 45-70 into a 458 mag. your shoulder will give up way before the ruger does. mr myopic.
