32-20 in a rifle
I have a 32-20 handgun but I acquired a Husqvarna SS Bolt action in 32-20. The bore is nice and all the parts are there. It is a sweet looking little rifle and seems to shoot good with the factory ammo that came with it.
What is a good load for 115gr cast bullets? I am thinking about starting with maybe 9gr of 2400 or 7gr of AA #5.
Any thoughts?
Here are powders I have to work with:
Unique
2400
AA#5
AA#9
Ramshot Silhouette
Lil Gun
Trail Boss
I will be using this for squirrels, Ground hogs and varmints around the place.

From the Lyman 49th edition they list loads for Unique, 2400, IMR4227, AA1680, IMR4198 and RX7.
115 gr cast bullet 311008 sized to .312 Winchester WSR primer
Modern rifle not for black powder or handgun loas
Unique starting 3.6 gr 943 fps 10,400 CUP
Max 4.5 gr 1117 fps 16,000 CUP
2400 starting 6.6 gr 1043 fps 10,900 Max 8.3gr 1239 fps 15,000 CUP
In your bolt gun you might get away with your 2400 load but it is past max for anything else. I would only load the max in case some ended up in a different rifle.
The pistol data for this bullet is not for black power guns or cheap Spanish copies.
Unique starting 3,2 gr 684 fps Max. 4.0 gr 885 fps0 -
I would not use 9 gr of 2400. 8 grains of 2400 is about max. Also 2400 is a little dirty. 0 -
Also look at the Hornady 85 gn .312 h.p. my martini likes 6.0 gns of 452 (this is not for older rifles/revolvers). 0
