You can be a conservative and be an atheist. Conservatism doesn't require religious belief.

I suspect you should think that the Taliban & their ilk are pretty conservative. You might say the same about the Orthodox Jews.

the original Tea Party movement had nothing to do at all with religion. it was only after they-the religious right, saw a movement that had possibilities, did they jump on to the bandwagon. that was also the time when the Tea Party's downfall began since the RR shuns moderates and fiscally conservative Democrats and independants.

It could be said that the Nazis or the KKK were/are conservative. Same could be said of the SS. Conservatism by definition has little to do with religion. Quite often, though, religious folks are conservative. Problem is that ISIS and their ilk are conservative.

Exactly. As soon as the Tea Party started gaining traction it was hijacked by the Moral Majority.

conservative religion too often advocates SOCIAL issues, and alienates many of the independents and moderates that must join in to win a full election..leave the social issues out and the voting public will endorse fiscal conservatism.

The moral majority is just a name of a political faction and has come and gone but when the perfect majority comes it will be a totally different story.[;)]
