According to Federal law, you can legally ship any firearm to any FFL anywhere in the country.

HOWEVER, some NJ dealers claim that state regulations prohibit them from importing any handgun from a non-dealer. That may or may not be true, no one has posted a verifiable reference. But before shipping any gun to any FFL, you (or the intended recipient) must first ask the FFL "Are you willing to accept this particular gun from this particular shipper (a non-licensee)?"

If you sell a gun to another person, it's HIS responsibility to make sure that it's legal in his state, & that his dealer is willing to accept it. YOU will have payment before the gun is shipped; if there is a problem with the dealer, it's the BUYER'S problem, & any loss will be the buyer's.

I agree with Neal. It's much safer (and probably cheaper) for you to have your FFL dealer ship it to the NJ dealer.

FordSix - Wouldn't your the War of Northern Aggression gun have come under the "antique description" and you could have just mailed it to the buyer? Reason I'm asking is not long ago I sold an 1882 Webley antique revolver to a buyer in New York state. Before shipping I spoke with a supervisor in the USPS about shipping by mail and she said it was perfectly OK as far as the Postal Service was concerned to ship it by Postal Service.

I'm aware New Jersey has some crazy laws and this may have entered into the picture.

I lived in NJ for a long time and finally escaped!
In NJ ALL firearms, rifles and pistols from BB guns to AKs are considered firearms!
There is NO exception for antique -considered same as any other firearm.
    Sling shots are weapons!
To purchase a BB GUN on has to get a purchase permit from the C.O.P in your town.
Some Chiefs are easy going but others resist even with a Must issue clause in the law.

Yep, even an original flintlock needs to go through an FFL in New Jersey. [:(!]

It makes me thankful that Christie didn't win the election! [:)]
