I like your idea However Think about the fact That many of the cartridges that have come out in the last 10 years are almost impossible to find ammo for. If you do move forward pick a caliber that you can convert from a well known case type if it comes down to hand-loading ammo down the road

Here's a link to a site that tests cartridges in varying barrel lengths.

Looks like you'd get quite a boost in velocity!

It seems like the .30 Carbine would do all a .327 Federal would do, and cartridges and components would be readily available, if a rimless case would serve your purpose.

    cowboy77845,

First off I'd like to wish the entire GunBroker family a VERY Happy Thanksgiving!

Here is some data in a nicely written article:

    And another:

With respect, there is literally a ton of ammunition available for this cartridge. There are the standardized versions as well as the heavier loads by Buffalo Bore. There is also a good supply of brass, primers and bullets for reloading. Cast bullets are extremely popular for both hunting and target shooting.

Because of the case capacity, there is little reason except for legality, to have a 16" barrel although this would make a very nice lightweight lever action rifle. Often out here in the Southwest, hunters will carry a lever action rifle and a handgun chambered for the same cartridge when hunting Javelina. The .327 Federal would make a fine pair for this type of hunting.

On introduction of the .327 Federal cartridge, many of us build single shot handguns for the Contender and similar firearms for competition. Here we could utilize the shorter 10" barrels and still knock over the silhouettes or achieve accurate target loads for Hunter Pistol.

If the spirit moves you, build one and let us hear about the results.

    Best.

I have the GP 100 in 327 and think it would be neat to have the rifle. The info provided is just what I was looking for. I originally thought I would like to have a Ruger # 3 in the caliber but 3's are costly prior to conversion. Will do something else I think. Thank you all. Hope all had a great Thanksgiving.

I would consider re-working an old bolt action military into a single shot by making a magazine block.

I am thinking a converted 1892 Winchester...newer Miroku made one, or a Marlin 1894 in this chambering would be a hoot.

I have been praying for someone to produce a .327fedmag lever-action rifle.
    I currently have two .327's. First was/is a Taurus 2" snubby.
The second is a Ruger SP101 with a 4.2" barrel.

I've also toyed with the idea of having a .32-20 converted to .327, but I'm not currently drowning in cash, so...

I would love to see what you come up with.
