have a old 1894 half round half octagon 25-1/4 inch barrel nickel plated receiver metal butt plate 30wcf ser 258172 sent for a letter form cody but didn't say much about it anyone know more about it thanks cdv

Winchester 1894 - My Grand fathers Winchester 1894 serial #1996XX was sent in to the Winchester company and converted into a 30-30 from a 38-55 several years ago. What would it take to convert it back? 0 -

The barrel should be exactly 26-inches long, and I sincerely doubt that it is nickel plated (at least not by Winchester). When the bluing on the receiver frame is worn completely off (or intentionally removed), the receiver will look similar to nickel plating, but will not be quite as bright. If the Factory letter from Cody does not specifically mention it being nickel plated (or "nickel trims"), it was not. 0
