Where are you getting your "gun related stuff"? From a Witch Doctor.

This was in a bunch of gun related stuff I bought. Carved from one branch with a burl knob on the end. Looks to be fairly new. Any idea what it is supposed to represent.

The answer is it may not "represent" anything. If you want to know, you have to ask the person who made it what they meant by it.

Regardless, I'll take a stab at this.

You have a staff with a serpent on one side, the Devil as the head, and (I think) a man in Native American facepaint on the other.

To me its a clear reference to the Biblical story of the garden of Eden, where a serpent, tempts Eve and leads to the fall of Man. The tie-in is that many believe the serpent was the Devil (Satan) in serpent form.

Why the Native American depiction? I don't know. Maybe the person who did this was Native American, and this is a fusion of Native American and Judeo-Christian mythology. (See here: http://www.holyblasphemy.net/jesus-and-the-coyote-similarities-between-biblical-literature-and-native-american-mythology/ )

Maybe its a view of "original man" as Native American. Or maybe I'm completely off base. [;)]

Someones idea of a native American holy man's staff?

In the end, maybe it is just folk art.

Where do I get my stuff. Where ever I can find it. Like the rest of us old gun guys, we are like a vacuum and end up with everything. I to kind of thought Native American holy staff. The more I look at the top part I believe it is a buffalo.

Could possibly be an Indian representation of a mythical Hodag from around Rhinelander, Wi. kinda in the middle of what was once Indian territory. Then again it might be something entirely different.

Any way after buying it He had nothing but bad luck. Car crash, illness You name it it happened to Him. He took the monkey head carved figure back to the shop told em to take it back and they could keep His money He paid them for it[:D]. And Yes no more bad luck for Him[:0]
