Winchester 1885 queston
I came across a high wall in 32-40. It has a #4 barrel and SST. The SN is 65090. I hope I got that right, I didn't have my glasses. I was hoping Bert could tell me if this is the way it left he factory, before make a decision on t.

Chip,
It left the factory with a 28-inch 1/2 octagon No. 4 barrel in 32-40, with a single-set trigger, a Swiss butt plate, and a mid-range vernier tang sight with a wind-gauge globe front sight.0 -
Thanks for information Bert,
That is pretty well as it sits, sights, trigger, butt plate,as you state, but I am pretty sure it was a full round barrel. I'll have to recheck.
How common are the #4 barrels.
Thanks again0 -

Thanks again
Approximately 15% of the Model 1885 high-walls were made with a #4 barrel. Thus far, I have recorded nearly 2,100 of them.0 -
It is a full round barrel. The cartridge stamp and barrel weight stamp looked OK. But all after a quick look though.
But who knows where and when the barrel was changed and with what, just keep looking I guess.
Thanks again Bert....................Chip0
