Shipping a long gun within home state
Is it legal for an individual to ship a long gun to another individual who lives in the same state?

Yes, as long as you can legally transfer it to the person and you have no reason to believe the person can't legally own the gun.
THIS IS NOT TRUE IN ALL STATES. State law, for instance CA, can make it illegal.0 -
Legal but getting a common carrier or hysterical postal clerk to accept a firearm for shipment to anybody but a FFL can be difficult. 0 -
Hawk is correct. Both Federal law AND US Postal regs permit you to MAIL an unloaded rifle or shotgun. Yeah, as in US Mail.
HERE is the postal reg on mailing a rifle or shotgun. See item 12.2. You might want to print a copy and take with you. If you encounter a hysterical clerk, politely and calmly ask to speak to the Postmaster.

If your state does NOT require that all firearm transfers be made thru a FFL, and you have no reason to believe the recipient is prohibited from possessing a gun, you should be good to go.0 -
To get technical --- which you really have to do in the case of transferring firearms --- you can only ship to an individual who is a resident of the same state. And, the only way that you can determine that is if you have a photocopy of his drivers license, or some other government issued photo ID.

Don't do it in NY State! It's now a felony under Emperor Cuomo's "UnSAFE Act". [:(!] 0 -
The post office doesn't ask what you're shipping, UPS requires a copy of the FFL the gun's being shipped to 0 -
Also, advise you break it down to make the box as short and compact as possible. Long skinny boxes are just asking to be bent in half. [;)][:D] 0
