fastfire and 336 marlin???
I have mounted a burris fastfire 3 on a weaver rail on this 336 marlin . the problem is it is shooting way low . when I tried to adjust it point of impact up, I ran out of adjustment. an it is still shooting very low . is the sight sitting on the weaver rail the problem ? do I need to have this sight down flat on the receiver? I was thinking I needed to raise the sight but siting here thinking about it I have no idea. any thoughts would help. thanks.

Don't know if this will help or not? But there are inexpensive "raisers" sold to raise the Weaver/Picatinny mounts.
You might just get away with, shimming the rail mounted on the Marlin though. Need longer screws though of course. Using flat washers, between the mount and top of receiver. By trial and error, to see if changing the height of the Weaver rail. Has a positive effect on elevation.0 -
I would try shimming just the back of the rail. You can get thin sheets of copper or brass that will conform to the profile of the receiver and rail. Depending how low it's shooting and at what distance will determine how thick the shim(s) should be. 0 -
Some rails have built in elevation, try turning it around.
How far are you shooting? The bullet needs time to climb up to your sight line.
I think you could shim the front of the base up, but its late and I'm tired from working on a roof all afternoon.
Added I do think that the front would need to be lowered or the rear raised.0 -
jar,
Before investing in modifications, I can suggest as did Charlie, that you check the rail and see of you can turn it around. This sounds like a classic case of backwards mounts or backwards rail. If this rail is sold as the proper on for your 336, it should work without shimming.
