Winchester M70 sticky stock
Have a Winchester M70 Ultimate Shadow with the camo DuraTouch stock. The stock has became sticky to the touch over the complete stock. If anyone has experienced this problem, is there some way to cure the problem? Without replacing the stock.

A few years ago I was brought a Browning A-Bolt with a sticky Dura-Touch finish.. The owner was a very experienced shooter, and assured me nothing out of the ordinary, was used on the gun.. It was put away fine about 2 years earlier.. Washing the stock with naptha did nothing.. I played with the finish in the barrel channel, and decided on a method I had used on different 'sticky' items in the past..
I rinsed the stock with de-natured alcohol, and padded dry-NO SCRUBBING.. I wet-coated the stock with Satin Min-Wax polyurethane ( I suggested Flat, but he wanted a slight sheen ).. It dried hard after 2 days.. When I talked to him about a year later it hadn't changed.. Both of us were quite pleased with the results.. I think it was a breakdown in the finish, and the Min-Wax stopped it.. I don't know what caused it, but I have since heard that it was/is a not uncommon problem with Dura-Touch..
You could also contact customer service and run it by them.. I'm sure you're not the first having this issue with this finish..0 -
