COLT 1911 re-blue ll
Received a letter from Colt today confirming the nickeled or chromed 1911 dad left me had been refinished.
Also the 1941 DOM given by phone from Colt was incorrect.
Letter states,
Finish: blue
Type of stocks: not listed
Shipped to: J.S.Oshman Company, Houston Texas.
Date of Shipment: November 12, 1946
Guns in Shipment: 10
Since the plating is flaking and I am sure as an unoriginal gun this was not one of dads favorite guns I may have it redone.
It has nothing to do with value it will never be for sale by me.
Just don't like a flakey gun.
I am guessing that Colt will do as fine a job as any other shop regardless if it is blueing or nickeling.
Opinions appreciated.
Thank You.

I will be surprised If Colt will do the job But if they do they will most likely make you happy with results 0 -
So is it a good shooter? If so and I had money to spend I would look at some of the new wonder finishes.

I agree.. You have the letter from Colt with it's "As Shipped" info.. Now have Colt reblue it.. Keep the paper work together, and you have a great keepsake..0 -
Hangfire...I think that is the way I am going to go.
perryshooter...I spoke with a few people at Colt.
They said they do refinish older 1911s.
But they need to put some eyes on it before saying for sure they will do mine.
I was pleasantly surprised at their $400-1,000 estimate for the work.
They said it may take up to a year to get it back.0 -

Colt sends all the refinish work to a local gun shop close by me. You may be able to get it done cheaper by calling them directly. The guy that runs the shop is kind of an **shoe but he does really good work. The name of the shop is Accurate Plating and Weaponry. Bob is the owner. Good luck!0 -
I recently viewed on the auction side(item 588655217) a commercial model 1911 with the same 1946 DOM as mine.
Like mine it has a rampant colt on both sides of the slide.
I am curious as to how rare this may or may not be.0 -
hello as to both sides having rampant colt between C220,001and C221,500 surplus military slides with the Colt on both sides were used I can't find any information on what military pistols used the both sides marked slides So it seems yours may be one of 1499 civilian models with you type of marked slides 0 -
If you want it done like Colt did in the old days there are two options I would consider.
Turnbull($$$$$)
Fords Guns.($$ but excellent work and it will look factory)
