questions about open face auto Driving helmets
hello going to give myself Birthday present end of the month 2 day driving school at track Virginia international raceway 3.7 mile track. along with changing Brake fluid and tech inspection of my car, I have to have a Snell 2005 or later open face helmet I wear glasses and want an open face for peripheral vision found one by race quip that said had lots of space for glasses great peripheral vision but then stated 28.9 pounds . Could this be true[?][?] or a misprint I have an old Helmet that I used on indoor Go Karts it is no where near 29 pounds Have not put on scales but I know it is less than 10 pounds and my neck is sore for 3or 4 days when I race rental Karts from g force I know my car may be close to ONE G when I had it on factory skid Pad but 29 pounds might leave my head outside the window on the track What am I missing here [?]

I can understand they want a helmet to be newer than 2005 but 30# has to be a misprint. 0 -
Yep, more like 2.89 pounds.
This BELL might work.

Yes. That has got to be a miss-print. No way, is a modern helmet, 29 pounds. Not even close. I would agree, maybe close to 3 pounds, would be more accurate. 0 -
it cannot be 28lbs. My Arai Corsair V, the same helmet used by most motto GP racers weighs about 3.5lbs.
It is designed to take a hit at 200mph +. It is considered heavy. I expect the helmet you're looking at is 2.8lbs.
In the motorcycle racing world, the helmet generally must be less than 5 years old to pass tech.
I think you'll have a great time, please share pics!0 -
thanks guys looking forward to it 0 -
If you're having issues with weight check out the polycarbonate helmets. Everything I've read shows equal, if not superior, protection.
It's a long read, but,,,

I've got an older Z1R Metro 3/4 helmet and it's lighter than my fiberglass Nolan 1/2 helmet.0 -
Get a Simpson and a neck collar if the weight bothers ya.
