Did they ever make this gun with barrel marked for 22 short only. Serial number dates to 1895. #55XXX

Barrel marked model 90, round barrel, 22 WRF, crescent butt, matching serial numbers. Serial number 533100. Can someone tell me what this is. 0 -

Read that. Unless the gun was rebarreled the markings are ten years out of date. I also can't find any reference to a round barrel on a 1890 only octogon. 0 -
How long is the barrel... 24-inches, or 23-inches ?
Does it have a "P" in a circle on the top rear part of the barrel?0 -
23, yes it does. I noticed it right away. Thought maybe it was sent back for a rebarrel. 0 -
OK... and just as I suspected, you have a very late production mail order replacement barrel. The barrel was originally destined to be used on a Model 62A (hence the 23-inch length), but instead, it was marked & used as a Model 90 mail order item. If you inspect the bottom of the barrel (near the receiver frame), you should find a 2-digit year number that will tell you when the barrel was made.
Model 1890 serial number 533100 was manufactured in February of 1914, approximately 30-years before the barrel was manufactured.0 -
Thanks Bert it makes sense now. I had never seen a barrel like that and the proof marks were different. It also explains the mint bore. 0
