Essex Slide 1911
I've heard of Essex 1911 frames. Some were soft, some were ok as far as heat treatment went.
What about their slides? This is a slide sold by Brownells with forward serrations and a Bomar sight cut.
Will these hold up to a 45 ACP?

I've had real good luck with the customer service folks at Brownells. Contact them and ask how the Rockwell hardness reading on the Essex slide, compares to the other ones they sell.
Given that, they sell a lot of parts specially to gunsmiths for builds. My WAG is that the Essex slide would be acceptable, as far as your concerns regarding hardness and wear.0 -
Used several over the years, no problems. These were for "ball guns" so it was full loads.
I did have many issues with Essex receivers and will no longer use them.0 -
just like frames Slides at least when first being produced were hit or miss 0 -
Thanks for the input! 0
